With the fateful “Return” issue of Uncanny fast approaching we set the mood by continuing the ever improving Nation-X storyline. It looks like the plot is beginning to thicken as the X-men track down who sent those Predator X’s into Utopia and to what end. Magneto attempts to find his own niche’ in the new and changing world of the X-men.

Issue 520 starts out with Cyclops ordering a small task force (comprised of Wolverine, Psylocke, and Colossus) to find and the person or persons responsible for sicking a couple of nanite infested Predator X’s onto everybody’s favorite Mutant utopia. Whilst gallivanting around the sewers of New York City in search of said abominations, they run into Fantomex. The strength of this issue is once again in the complexity of Scott Summers and Magneto’s quickly dwindling “alliance” between the two men. They are clearly on different levels in terms of what they think is trustworthy and what is necessary in these volatile times. For once however it seems as if Magneto truly does only want the X-men’s trust.

Issue 521 continues in the same vein as its predecessor. The action in New York takes an interesting turn as readers finally find out the reasoning behind the Predator’s attack. Also the X-men are saved by the always trustworthy, Fantomex? It is also revealed that there is a larger villain behind these attacks, John Sublime, who was a leading member of the Weapon plus Program. This huge development may play heavily into what happens after the “return” story arc. A round of applause to the creative team and writer Matt Fraction for pulling this story in to make it interesting and bringing back characters that fan’s hadn’t seen in some time. The biggest thriller of all is on the last two panels of issue #521, it is finally revealed on how Kitty Pryde will return to the X-men.

Wow just another couple of outstanding issues of Uncanny. This has been a great build up to the return of Kitty Pryde and Hope. I’ve got to say that Matt Fraction is handling this series in excellent fashion and it seems that the bigger the event the strong he storytelling has become.
