Well it looks as if we’ve scheduled another adventure into Scott Summers mind boys and girls. Issue 519 deals with the sliver of the void migrating into Cyclops mind. It looks like Utopia’s new leader has some mental issues and who else to give him a hand than the lovely and always quaint Emma Frost.

Another shining example of how well the characters have advanced over the past year, this issue takes Emma and Scott back into the depths of his subconscious. I have really enjoyed the maturity of Cyclops and this issue finally shows fans that he’s over all of his intense weaknesses that have plagued him over the years. The first thing I noticed as I sat down to read this was that the chemistry between Emma Frost and Scott has been written so very well. I feel that this has been and will be the backbone of the Matt Fraction era of X-men titles. After so much development we finally get to see a test of the couples trust and love for one another. Unfortunately as many fans know this issue marks a great departure from the hallowed halls of the X-men’s lore. (Without spoiling anything of course because check out the cover) The most enjoyable thing here is that Fraction was able to effectively juggle three entirely different plot points at once. Not only do the fans get to catch some great action with Cyclops and the White Queen in his mind, (Kudos to the Dodson’s the fan boy’s appreciate the Emma Frost white beret commando outfit) but he was able to fit in the aftermath of the San Francisco incidents and two more plots that you’ll just have to read to find out.

Now this is a good issue of Uncanny that I recommend most fans grabbing. Mostly because of all the loose ends left over in the previous event finally being completely tied up. The most important reason to read this is that Matt Fraction finally has found a formula that can work for his “multiple plot elements” style of book. I’ve been a little uneasy with his habit of having up to three or four storyline’s open at once, but here he pulls it off splendidly. Now when we pick up an Issue of Uncanny nobody will yell “What in the name of continuity!”.
